Civil Society Dialogue

Japan: the land of the rising business opportunities
This EU-Japan Centre seminar will examine the likely impacts the FTA will have on key business sectors, will hear success stories from companies that have succeeded in Japan or help other companies to do so, and will look at what support is available to help companies work with and in Japan. Keynote speech and Q&A– Business opportunities through the FTA by Hosuk Lee-Makiyama.

Roundtable for stakeholders in the retailers, distribution, textiles/leather sectors. The meetings was chaired by Mr. Lee-Makiyama.

EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement:  an ambitious deal to boost both growth and jobs​
The event organised by the EESC Japan Follow-up Committee provided a forum for exchange of ideas among European and Japanese stakeholders on the progress of the negotiations and role of civil society in the negotiation and follow-up to a prospect agreement. Hosuk Lee-Makiyama presented during Session 2 EU-Japan FTA:The Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment (the economic, environmental and social impacts, cross-sectoral issues and the impact on competitiveness of an agreement).

Round table with stakeholders: social impacts
LSE Enterprise organized a round table for stakeholders on the potential social impacts of the EU-Japan FTA. The meeting was chaired by Ken Heydon, one of our lead thematic researchers for the TSIA study.

Civil Society Dialogue meeting - Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) in support of negotiations of a comprehensive trade and investment agreement between the EU and Japan, Draft Inception Report.

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss with civil society the draft inception report, which had been made available ahead of the meeting. The inception report has been finalised by the consultant, taking stakeholders' contributions into account, and has been published on the 30 March 2015.

The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to comment on the methodological approach proposed by the consultants as well as to identify other relevant issues to be further analysed in the course of the SIA.

16-17 October 2014: 5th EU-Japan Symposium in ICT Research and Innovation
This symposium was opened by Mr. Toshiyuki Takei, Director General of MIC, Mr. Masao Sakauchi, President of NICT and Mr. Zoran Stancic, Deputy Director General of DG CONNECT, and the keynote speeches from high-level officials both from the EU and Japan will take place.
